Alpine is part of Illinois Tool Works (ITW). ITW Building Components Group Inc., a leading worldwide supplier of technology-driven products and services for the building component industry including , truss fabrication and . Since 1966, its products have been used in more than seven million homes. In recent years, one out of every three homes built in the United States used Alpine products. Employing more than 500 associates in a dozen factories and offices around the world, its customer base of more than 800 active accounts is dispersed throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. ITWBCG also markets products in Europe, South Africa, South American, Australia and Japan.
Alpine was one of the first companies in the industry to recognize the value of the computer. Since 1966, its engineers have worked to develop software to help engineers design structural building components efficiently and accurately. Other computer programs control automated machinery, such as saws, component cutters and truss and wall panel setup. Alpine software also helps component manufacturers manage their businesses. The company continues to invest millions of dollars a year in software development.
Alpine customers rely on its many services including engineering, computer software, consultation, and research and development. More than 150 Alpine associates work in these areas. In one recent year alone, Alpine engineers certified more than 2.5 million structural designs. Ninety percent of those designs were returned to the customer within 24 hours.
The ITW Building Components Group is the world’s second largest supplier of metal to the wood truss industry. In addition, it pioneered and continues to be the world leader in the supply of cold-formed, light gauge steel trusses. Alpine Equipment Division manufactures the industry’s most complete line of component truss fabrication equipment, including the first computer-controlled and automated truss setup jigging system, and many other innovative machines and equipment.
